Hi everyone, I’m Erika, based in Pasadena, CA, and I’m in the early stages of organizing a Pride Day celebration right here in our city. I’m reaching out to connect with a community of LGBTQ+ folks and allies, learners, activists, and experienced Pride organizers ,who can help guide, support, and maybe even join me in making this event a reality. Join me if you are interested!
Here’s what I know I need to be doing:
🏳️🌈 Online Communities & Forums
r/lgbt: A large, active LGBTQ+ community. You can post questions or ask for advice about Pride event planning.
r/asktransgender: Great for personal support and connection with other trans folks, many of whom are involved in activism.
Facebook Groups
Search for groups like:
“SoCal LGBTQ+ Events and Activism”
“Pasadena LGBTQ+ Community”
“LGBTQ+ Pride Organizers Network”
Join and post asking for tips, resources, or local contacts.
Discord Servers
Try LGBTQ+ Lounge or search on Disboard for Pride and activism-focused communities.
Look for servers dedicated to event planning or local activism.
🌐 Websites & Networks
InterPride (interpride.org): The international organization for Pride organizers. You can become a member or reach out for mentorship or guidance.
LAGLC / The Center (lalgbtcenter.org): Based in LA, they have community outreach staff and may offer guidance or even collaboration opportunities.
CSW / LA Pride (lapride.org): Contact them directly or look into volunteer opportunities to learn from their process.
💬 Tips for Connecting and Learning
Post with intention: Say you’re in Pasadena, planning a Pride Day, and want to learn from others who’ve done it.
Ask for:
Planning checklists
Sponsorship guidance
Parade permitting and city coordination info
Outreach strategies for diverse representation
Offer to volunteer with nearby events like LA Pride to gain experience.
